Bigfoot Entertainment CEO and Fashion One Foundation Board Member, Ashley Jordan was invited by the Qatar Foundation For Combating Human Trafficking as one of the speakers on the 3rd Doha Forum on Combating Human Trafficking held last January 22-23 in Doha, Qatar.

Ms. Jordan talks about the active role of media in raising awareness on the issue of human trafficking as Fashion One Foundation premiered The Girl With No Number, a Bigfoot Entertainment’s production, through its television network, Fashion One, to support the Human Trafficking Awareness Day in cooperation with Fashion Hope.

Human Trafficking is a global issue. 2.5M each year are victims of human trafficking. It is not just happening in 3rd world countries like Asia or Africa where people are traded around like goods. It is also happening in the US, Paris and all over. We hear reports of females being kidnapped and sold as sex slaves to the highest bidder, or mail order brides “bought,” or even children forced into labor. Anyone, even your next-door neighbor or a billionaire living in the Hamptons, can be guilty of Human Trafficking.

Bigfoot Entertainment is an international entertainment company specializing in the production of films and television programmes. The company produced a controversial film The Girl With No Number that depicts the story of a young Vietnamese girl that worked in garment factory who leaves her home in search of work, and ends up being coerced into marrying a foreigner to help support her family – a predominant form of human trafficking happening across the regions today.

The Girl With No Number was shown on Bigfoot’s international television network, Fashion One, through the efforts of its non-profit charity arm, Fashion One Foundation.

“We aim to spotlight and support other non-profits. As a media outlet, we utilize our reach to further education and bring awareness to key social issues today,” explains Ms. Jordan, “In the film The Girl With No Number, we want to bring the issue of human trafficking to light, and support organizations who are actively invoking this cause in the process. We are looking forward to work with other organizations who are in need of a venue for their voices to be heard.”

About THE GIRL WITH NO NUMBER

MISSION of the FILM

Shed light on this sensitive topic of human trafficking from a first person point of view and bring awareness to this impending issue

Provide a different perspective: the issue on hand unfortunately has no borders and is a worldwide epidemic

GOAL

By utilizing our facilities – we aim to spread awareness and education to further curve the existence of human trafficking around the world.

As a media entity we encourage other players in the industry to follow suit and do what is possible to encourage positive action in issues that affect our society today.

Also we are using the Foundation to donate to non-profits that are making a difference with rehabilitation, such as Fashion Hope, and work closely together with these organizations in delivering their causes.

About the Forum

Last July 7-9, Fashion One Foundation and Fashion One Network representatives traveled to Puerto Princessa, Palawan to turnover 1,000 solar lamps to the municipality’s Local Government Unit (LGU) as part of the foundation’s Light A Million Homes Project. The crew was welcomed and accompanied by outgoing Puerto Princessa Mayor Edward “Ed” Hagedorn as the province’s representative to distribute the solar lamps to the residents of the remote mountain areas, so remote that no electricity lines are able to reach there.

A thousand families from Barangay San Rafael, Barangay Napsan and Barangay Cabayugan became beneficiaries of the solar lamps. It takes about 2-3 hours of rough intense mountain terrain on private SUV vehicle just to reach these areas. With no communication signals and no electricity, residents in these areas runs a simple life with farming as the main source of income and sunlight as their source of energy.

“It was so heartwarming to see the smiles on the people and children’s faces when they received the lanterns. Their dim homes now have lights that their children can study properly,” Monika Rofler, Fashion One Model

Children have to walk several kilometers to attend school and walk the same distance to go back home, leaving them only a few hours to none to take advantage of the sunlight to study and finish their assignments. The families use candle sticks or kerosene to light up their homes not only at night but also during the day due to their poorly lit homes where sunlight can’t get through.

“The use of candles and kerosene for lighting are not only a strain in these families daily budgets, but are also the main cause of accidental house fires in the area,” former mayor Hagedorn attests, “I’m so happy that Fashion One Foundation are donating these solar lamps that utilizes a more safe, environmentally friendly and free renewable source of light to our province.”

Distribution of the lamps was held at each barangay captains’ house, usually the central meeting point for town’s activities. There are residents that walked 7 kilometers just to receive the lamps, knowing how important this simple commodity is, which will help to improve their livelihood and quality of living.

Palawan is known as the last frontier of the Philippines where wildlife still roam and nature flourish. It is home to majority of the flora and fauna species not only in the Philippines, but also the world. The people of Palawan are proud of this and are proactive in preserving their land. Solar energy is a simple yet effective way to help.

1,000 homes served, 999,000 to go. Let’s join the solar power revolution. Donate now.

Synopsis

Phuong Ly, a poor, beautiful Vietnamese woman, falls in love with an attractive, kind and wealthy man who wants to take her hand in marriage. Her life is seemingly perfect until her boyfriend’s mother purposefully sabotages their relationship.

Heartbroken and fragile, Phuong Ly travels to Ho Chi Minh City to work as a cleaner at a marriage agency. There she meets Mitch, one of the men seeking an arranged marriage.

He takes a strong interest in her, and coerces her to marry him with the promise that he’ll support her family in Vietnam and that she’ll receive a better life. However as soon as she arrives in America, Phuong Ly realizes she has been brought as a slave.

She is violated and abused with no hope of escape. The only ray of light is the bond she develops with the American’s young, autistic niece; both of them prisoners needing to escape.

What is Human Trafficking?

Human trafficking has been with us since the beginning of time; only its trends have changed over time. Trafficking, also referred to as modern day slavery, is more affordable, more wide-spread, and more ingrained in our society than during the Civil War. Today’s trafficking victims are females, males and children, are from any country, and represent any ethnicity. They work in industries ranging from domestic servitude to agriculture to commercial sex industry. According to Global Financial Integrity, a program for the Center for International Policy, human trafficking is the fastest growing criminal industry in the world, second only to drug trafficking as the most profitable illegal industry.

Just as the nature of the crime is global, the nature of the movement to fight it is also global. Governments, businesses, non-profits and individual communities across the globe are working to eradicate trafficking and help its victims. The Fashion One Foundation stands up against human trafficking and supports the empowerment of victims and promoting awareness for the widespread cause.

The Fashion One Foundation believes that slavery today takes on a new form. Daily men, women, and children are coerced, abducted, and forced against their will; ultimately forced into virtually invisible bondage. According to the UN Global Initiative to fight Human Trafficking, approximations of 2.5 million people are affected by the crime of human trafficking. It is the sad truth that this unmentionable act invades multiple populations throughout our world. Human Exploitation functions as our modern form of slavery that has taken residence deep within our society, infecting our local communities.

Sex Trafficking: Facts & Figures

– The United Nations estimates that 700,000 to 4 million women and children are trafficked around the world for purposes of forced prostitution, labor and other forms of exploitation every year. Trafficking is estimated to be a $7 billion dollar annual business.

– Victims of trafficking are subject to gross human rights violations including, rape, torture, forced abortions, starvation, and threats of torturing or murdering family members.

– Nearly every country is involved in the web of trafficking activities, either as a country of origin, destination
